Spanish Language and Culture Assistants in the United States and Canada



Program description

This program allows both graduates and Spanish teachers to complete their training in the USA or Canada, working as Spanish language conversation assistants in American or Canadian educational centers.

The program has a double purpose; on the one hand, as cultural exchange and on the other, to facilitate the means for the assistants to master both their linguistic and professional skills.

The corresponding authorities assign the assistants to the different educational centers, where they will develop their practice as language assistants during Spanish lessons, under the supervision of a tenured teacher, from sixteen to twenty hours a week.




Young Spanish university graduates (see requirements below).




Applicants are required:

1. To have Spanish nationality

2. To be in any of the following academic situations:

  • To be a final-year student of one of the degrees listed in Annex I PDF during the current academic year 2021-22. Applicants must be able to obtain a degree at the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, for which they must accumulate all the credits necessary to complete the studies.
  • To have obtained one of the degrees listed in Annex IPDF in the academic years 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020 or 2020-2021.
  • To have obtained one of the degrees listed in Annex IPDF in the academic year 2016-2017, in which case they must also possess or be studying an Official Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, Master's Degree in the field of foreign language teaching, or Master’s degree accrediting to become a teacher or an equivalent qualification.

3. Not having been a language assistant in this program before.

4. Not having declined a position after accepting an offer, according to the application period.

5. To be in good physical and psychological health.

6. To meet the requirements for the country listed in Annex IIPDF

Applicants are required to have completed or be in the last year of:

  • an English Studies degree.
  • a degree in Spanish Language and Literature or Romance languages, Hispanic Studies, Applied Languages, Linguistics or Comparative Literature. A B1 English level certificate is required
  • a degree in the field of Foreign Language and Literature or Modern Languages with English as a major.
  • a Translation degree, with English as a first or second language
  • a degree or Master's in Foreign Language and Literature or Modern Languages with an English major.
  • a degree in the Humanities, as long as a B1 level of English is accredited
  • a Teaching degree with a minor in English as a foreign language; or Teaching degree with a different minor with an accredited B1 level of English and currently taking or having completed courses for a Master's in Spanish as a Foreign Language or in Teaching of Foreign Languages




The assistants will receive $1,000 (one thousand dollars) per month. Accommodation will be provided by the schools where they will be working as language assistants.Travel expenses to and from the country of destination will be assumed by the selected candidates.




From September 1st, 2021 to April 30th, 2022 (USA).

From October 1st, 2021 to May 31st, 2022 (Canada).
